Product Description

BaseBond 1651 is a premium acrylic-based adhesive for the installation of most types of wall bases.

Features

  • Part of the EcoTech family of adhesives, which are solvent-free, low-TVOC, low-odor and nonflammable for safer installation.

  • Will not stain light-coloured base.

  • Great initial grab and long-term bond strength.

  • Thick viscosity for excellent trowelability.

  • Nonflammable.

Uses
  • Use for the interior installation of vinyl, rubber and carpet types of wall bases.

  • Use for interior applications when substrate temperatures are between 10°C and 32°C (50°F and 90°F).

    Substrate Requirements

All surfaces must be structurally sound, level and clean of all substances that can weaken the adhesive’s bond to the substrate. These include, but are not limited to, concrete sealers and curing agents, existing adhesive, dirt, wax, tar, paint and loose toppings. If the surface contains these substances, they must be mechanically removed. The use of solvents and acid etching is not recommended.

    Approved Substrates Properly Prepared

(see “Substrate Requirements for Floor Coverings” document for preparation details)

  • Fully cured concrete with a pH of 5 to 9.

  • Drywall/plaster (fully dried).

  • Any underlayment or substrate approved and warranted by the wall-base manufacturer and/or the underlayment manufacturer for the specific type of installation.

Application

1. Apply to either the wall or the back of the base with the recommended trowel or a multiholed nozzle for the cartridges.

2. Apply wall base into adhesive while it is fresh, ensuring 90% of the adhesive transfers.

3. Roll entire surface to ensure full contact, always working back toward the last
piece installed. Tip: Bringing in the base from an excessively hot or cold vehicle, or throwing the base over your shoulder and allowing the box to break in the middle, can cause problems later with expansion and contraction. Acclimation and proper handling of the base according to the manufacturer’s recommendations are crucial. Gapped or peaked joints could occur if the base is abused or not acclimated properly.

4. Complete installation following the flooring manufacturer’s instructions.

5. Clean all tools with water while material is fresh.

6. Allow 24 hours after installation for proper curing of the adhesive.
